“Belles dames”, Marc Galipeau, artist painter

Recently, I led a workshop for a vocal ensemble in the Eastern Townships, Quebec. Although the piano is my main instrument, my various experiences in leading improvisation workshops over the past 30 years have enabled me to develop adaptability in a variety of situations and musical ensembles. The creative activities I proposed in this latest workshop enabled the group to explore rhythm, meters, and also different improvisation strategies, leading to vocal creations in duet, trio or quartet. What a wonderful quality of listening in the group! We concluded the workshop with some magnificent solos on the harmonic sequence, Cycle's Harmony by David Darling, accompanied by the ensemble's pianist. In this last activity, each vocal solo was imbued with great expressive power, as if the whole workshop had led to this climax...

Thanks to Monique Picard, the ensemble's artistic director who took the initiative in organizing the event, and to Serge-André Jones, the ensemble's pianist. Thanks also to the singers who kindly took part in this experiment! I look forward to hearing all this expressive potential at the next concert of the ensemble Au gré des chants!

Coming soon, in this blog, inspiring ideas for piano teachers.....

In the meantime, you can visit the Courses and workshops for pianists section of my web site.

See you soon and... sing freely!
